Get Better Every Day (GBED) operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. GBED was founded by Chartrael Hall in 2016. GBED addresses the growing issue of identity crisis among youth, athletes, and young adults by teaching them that your past actions don't soley define you.
Through life coaching, mentorship, outreach, accountability, and structured development programs, participants are equipped to overcome adversity, heal from rejection and disappointment, and build confidence for life beyond sports or circumstance. Our unique approach combines athletics, mentorship and values as tools for teaching discipline, leadership, and personal development.

Founder/ Executive Director
Chartrael Hall
Chartrael Hall is the visionary founder of Get Better Every Day(GBED), bringing 7 years of experience in mentoring and ministry. A former standout athlete and Bellarmine University graduate, he played professional basketball internationally for 7 years. He founded GBED to mentor youth through education and sports, developing their spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical growth. Hall also helped bring the world’s largest youth basketball tournament to Louisville and contributed to the NBA2LOU initiative in 2018.
A devoted husband to Shelby and father of four, he serves as a life coach and ordained minister and is a former Louisville mayoral candidate.Through faith and leadership, he continues to impact communities, with a vision to expand GBED and pastor a church, guided by his belief: We must love unconditionally to create a better tomorrow.
Assistant Executive Director
Steven Julian
From the basketball courts of Louisville to the halls of Cornell University and the professional leagues of Europe, Steven Julian’s journey is a testament to his unwavering faith and relentless determination. A Louisville native, Steven’ s passion and perseverance propelled him through prep school and junior college, ultimately leading to an Ivy League education and two successful years playing basketball for Cornell. Following his graduation with a degree in Developmental Sociology, Steven pursued his dream of professional basketball, competing for three years in Portugal and Luxembourg.
His growing sense of purpose brought him back home in Louisville and solidified his desire to shift his focus towards his long-standing passion for service and youth development. Deeply influenced by the mentors who guided him, Steven is committed to replicating that support, empowering the next generation to reach new heights. He envisions a future where he can holistically develop individuals – mentally, physically, and spiritually – continuing to uplift and serve
his community.
Director of Mentees
Kam Guess
Born and raised in New Albany, Indiana, Kameron Guess is dedicated to empowering youth and fostering community through mentorship, education, and sports. A proud graduate of Bellarmine University’s Class of 2022. Kameron earned his degree in Psychology before beginning his professional journey in the Dr. Patricia Carver Office of Identity and Inclusion. There, he serves as the Coordinator for the Knights of Color Mentor Program, helping guide and support students of color through meaningful mentorship relationships. He also played a key role in launching Men of Color, a group designed to create space and community for men of color at The University of Bellarmine.
Beyond campus involvement, Kameron is deeply engaged in youth basketball development across Louisville. He began coaching as a senior in high school and is currently the Junior Varsity Coach at Assumption High School, as well as the Director of the Louisville Rockets basketball program. Kameron has also contributed his expertise to D.E. Elite, helping young athletes grow both on and off the court. At the core of his work is a passion for mentorship, leadership, and holistic youth development. Kameron believes in equipping young people with the tools they need to excel — not only as athletes or students, but as confident, well-rounded individuals prepared to lead in every area of life.
